The William K. Sanford Town Library is part of the Upper Hudson Library System (UHLS) >.  This library system is made of 29 town libraries in Albany and Rensselaer Counties.  Library cardholders are able to borrow materials from any of these libraries, as well as return most items to any of these locations. (Please be aware there are some exceptions).


Residents of Albany or Rensselaer Counties

  • If 16 years old or older
    • Must show valid drivers license or permit, New York state non-driver identification, or passport that has your current address
    • If address shown on license/passport is not current, show utility bill, pay stub, or rent receipt with your name and current address
  • If 3 -15 years old
    • Must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian who lives at the same residence
      • this adult will also need their own library card
      • this adult will co-sign the child’s application as they are responsible for all materials borrowed and fines incurred on the child’s card until the child is 16 years old
  • May apply in person or online

Online Applicants

  • Online cards are active immediately and are valid for 30 days
  • Visit the library within 30 days to receive permanent card
    • must show valid drivers license, New York state non-driver identification, or passport that has your current address
    • if address shown on license/passport is not current, show utility bill, pay stub, or rent receipt with your name and current address

Non-Residents

  • $25/year, includes all family members living in that household; one card issued per household
  • Accepted only at the library where purchased
  • Must apply in person and show valid drivers license, New York state non-driver identification, or passport that has your current address
  • If address shown on license/passport is not current, show utility bill, pay stub, or rent receipt with your name and current address
  • Students and parents can receive cards at no cost
    • Kindergarten through high school students attending school in Town of Colonie but live outside Albany and Rensselaer County must show proof of current enrollment, such as a most recent report card
      • same requirements as above
    • College/University students attending a school in Albany or Rensselaer County
      • must show valid school ID
      • must show valid drivers license or passport
      • proof of current address
      • proof of home address

Businesses

  • Anyone who works in the Town of Colonie can receive a card at no cost
  • Card is valid for one year and may be renewed
  • Must apply in person and show valid driver’s license or passport AND work ID or pay stub
  • In-person applications only

Visitors

  • $25.00 refundable cash deposit for a temporary card
  • Must apply in person and show valid driver’s license, passport, or proof of local address (such as a lodging receipt) and proof of home address
