Town Supervisor
On behalf of our great Town, it is my pleasure to welcome you as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the William K. Sanford Library.
For five decades, our Library has stood as a cornerstone of the community, fostering learning, curiosity, and connection for residents of all ages. From its earliest days to its present role as a vibrant hub for education, culture, and civic life, our Library’s impact has been felt far beyond its walls.
As an elementary school student in the 1960s, my Mom would bring me to our Town’s Library to borrow books for summer reading. My Mom was a high school English teacher and was keenly aware of the value of reading. My first visit to our Library was when it was located in the basement of 492 Albany Shaker Road, with a collection of 3,000 books. Subsequently, an additional location was added at Colonie Center. By 1976, our Library moved to its current location. On May 11, 1985, I attended the dedication ceremony honoring former Town Supervisor William K. Sanford. Dedicating our Library in his name was a powerful and lasting tribute to a great Town Supervisor who led our Town from 1950 through 1977.
The “Midnight at the Library: Where Books Come Alive” gala celebration includes an unforgettable evening where books will come to life and will long linger after the last page is turned.
