What is curbside service?

If you are unable to come into the library, you may pick up your items in the entryway.
Call 518-458-9274 before you leave home or when you arrive.
Your items will be checked out to you, placed in a bag with your name on it, and left in the front entrance lobby.

How do I pay late fines?

You may pay by cash or credit at the checkout desk, or online with a credit card following these directions >.
You can review your account > at any time to check on the current due dates for items and renew them.

How long do items circulate? How many items can I check out?

Are you accepting book or toy donations?

  • We accept donations every Thursday. Toys are not accepted at this time.
  • Items needed:
    • recent best sellers
    • clean copies of “classic” titles
    • current magazines
    • audiovisual materials (DVDs, CDs)
    • children’s books
    • One small grocery bag or less, per week; excess items cannot be accepted
  • Items not needed
    • books in poor condition (yellowed or torn pages, broken bindings, musty)
    • textbooks
    • Reader’s Digest condensed books
    • encyclopedias and other dated information
    • toys
  • Bring items to front entrance and leave on designated cart 
  • Limit of one grocery bag or small box per week; excess items will not be accepted

Can you purchase a certain title for me?

Yes. We will research your request and make the purchase if possible. Complete this form > to send us your request.

What is my PIN?

Your pin defaults to the last four digits of the phone number we have on file for you. If you need further assistance, please call 518-458-9274.

After you log into your account >, you have the option to change your PIN in your settings.

Why is my library card expired?

Library cards expire every three years to ensure contact information is correct. If your card has expired, please visit us or call 518-458-9274 and we can renew it. You will continue to use the same card and the update is effective immediately.

Do I need a library card to attend events?

No. You do not need a library card to attend events at the Colonie Library.

If you would like to have one, the process only takes a few minutes and you can apply for a card online > or in person at the circulation desk.

How do I reserve a room?

Can I have a regularly scheduled meeting at the library?

No. In order to offer equal access to all patrons, standing reservations and consecutive use for programs are not permitted.

There is a maximum of 12 reservations per calendar year.

Reservations for the Activity Room and Stedman Room must be made at least 2 weeks in advance, and no longer than 3 months in advance.

Can tutors meet with students at the library?

Yes. The designated space for tutoring is on the mezzanine, towards the back of the building. Map >
